Why this series exists
Students cannot learn when they do not feel safe. Teacher aides and paraprofessionals are with those students all day, they are usually the first to notice a change, and they are the least likely to have been trained in what trauma, anxiety or ADHD actually looks like from the outside.
These workshops close that gap in 90 minutes, without the lecture. Staff leave able to ask a better question than what is wrong with this student, and with strategies they can use the next morning.
When Behavior Speaks
Recognizing trauma, building connection. Childhood trauma and ACEs, the brain under stress, what trauma responses look like in a classroom, and trauma informed strategies for relationship, routine and de-escalation.
Big Feelings, Better Supports
Anxiety, ADHD and emotional regulation. How each one presents differently across students, telling a skill deficit from willful noncompliance, and practical classroom supports for regulation, executive functioning and engagement.
Built for your building
Every session is customized before delivery. Real scenarios from your setting, the right audience, and objectives that match what your administrators are already working on.
What a workshop includes
The session
90 minutes of facilitated instruction, interactive presentation, real world school scenarios, guided discussion and practical problem solving.
Preparation
Planning and customization for your district and your audience before the day, so the examples land as familiar.
Materials and evaluation
Printed participant handouts and a feedback survey covering satisfaction, perceived learning and confidence applying the strategies.
Workshops are $1,500 each. Districts running the series across multiple teams or multiple dates can ask me about that when we talk.
Who you would be working with
Millie Chatelain, LMHC
Licensed Mental Health Counselor. New York #013500, Florida #MH27166, Massachusetts #LMHC10005627. Founder of Intersect Mental Health Counseling.
I am an Afro-Latina therapist, born and raised in the Bronx, and my work is shaped by a deep appreciation for culture and identity. I work with adolescents and adults navigating trauma, ADHD, racial and cultural identity, belonging, relationships and life transitions, and the kind of work stress that stops feeling temporary.
Therapy with me is not about being fixed. It is about making space to understand what you carry, where it came from, and what you want to do with it, at a pace that belongs to you. You will not have to shrink your experience or explain your whole background before we can get to work.
How a booking usually goes
We talk about your building. What your staff are seeing this year, what has already been tried, and which team the session is for.
I send a written proposal. Objectives, agenda and cost, customized to your district, so you have something to put in front of a decision maker.
We schedule and I deliver it. In person, 90 minutes, handouts included, with a participant feedback survey afterward.
Questions people ask me
Who is the audience?
The series was built for teacher aides and paraprofessionals, and it works just as well for teachers, support staff, coaches and after school teams. Tell me who will be in the room and I will shape it for them.
Can you deliver it virtually?
The workshops are designed to be in person, because the scenario work and discussion carry a lot of the value. If your district needs a virtual option, ask me and we will talk about what adapts well.
Do you offer other topics?
Yes. These two are the anchors of the series, and I build sessions for districts around related needs. If you have a specific challenge this year, tell me about it in the form.
Who is delivering the training?
I am. Milagros Chatelain, LMHC, founder of Intersect Mental Health Counseling, a licensed mental health counselor, trauma therapist and school based mental health consultant with experience across clinical, community and school based settings.
How do we get a proposal?
Fill out the form on this page or call me at (203) 826-8848. I will follow up with a written proposal you can bring to whoever signs off on professional development.
